Larry Halvorsen
Larry’s Halverson’s signature black and white vessels are made of stoneware clay which is fired to cone 10 or 2300 degrees.  Since it is high fire, his vases cups and containers are defintely functional.  He combines hand building and wheel techniques.  Using an ancient decorativ method called "sagrafitto", he coats the pieces with black “slip” through which he craves to reveal the white clay underneath.Combining his interests in primitive art, ancient tools, natural forms and a lifelong love of pattern, he creates an ever-evolving body of work. The recent focus of his work has been a series of free-standing totems,  including sculptures, birdbaths and tables and work for the wall.
The designs for Larry's sculptural pieces are inspired by ancient stone tools, ritual objects, primitive shields, and forms of nature. He has taught ceramics for many years, and has exhibited around the country at galleries and juried craft fairs since 1982.
