Jon Price Crystalline Glaze Porcelain
A third generation crystalline glaze potter, Jon Price has been creating this amazing art form since childhood. He began researching and developing crystalline glazes in 1989. He specializes in Willemite-crystal glazes, because he finds the rich, vibrant, large crystals that grow in it to be quite captivating. All his glazes are cadmium and barium free.
One of the exciting characteristics of these crystalline glazes is that the crystals actually
grow in the porcelain in the as it is fired, much like a snowflake crystal grows. It is special metallic oxides dissolved in the glaze which produce these colors. Depending upon the amounts used and the rates of heating and cooling, the crystals pick up the colorant to varying degrees. This yields an endless variety of crystal colorings.
Each crystal is a unique growth so two vases are ever alike.
The trick is trying to pick one!
